When uploading a video to YouTube, you can change the privacy settings for that video to Public, Private, or Unlisted.
Public is the default setting and that means anybody can see your video.
Private means only those you invite to view the video can view it (they must have their own Youtube accounts and the maximum number is 50 usernames). Your video will not come up under any search results or your channel list. If you try to share it with someone who wasn’t invited, they will not be able to connect to it.
Unlisted means your video will not come up in search results or on your channel either. Only those who know the link can view it, and you can share the link with anyone, even those who do not have a YouTube account/username. This means that this video could still be seen by anyone, but only if they guess the link!
If your video is already uploaded, go to your video manager under the drop down menu and you can change the privacy settings for each video as well as DELETE your videos permanently.

So, if I only want the people on my Friends list to see what’s in the Playlist I should choose Private?
Yes. Your friends must have their own account and then you include them by giving them access to the “Private” videos.
I have an intro video to upload to my online class, if I upload the link with an unlisted setting can my instructor and classmates view the video whether they have a YouTube account or not or do I have to set it to public?
As long as you provide your instructor and classmates with the proper URL, they can view it. Unlisted just keeps the video out of the public YouTube stream; it can still be watched from the link. Good luck!
The exceptions to the unlisted approach are:
1. The video can still show in YouTube search results if it was added to a playlist.
2. With few exceptions, the uploader’s subscribers would be notified.
Unlisted videos can end up shared on other sites (there is even an entire site dedicated to unlisted YouTube videos).
Hi, with an unlisted video if I say post the link to a forum would those watching it be able to see my account name and then access my other videos (Public) from there? My main concerns are to not broadcast my name so they cannot easily see my other videos without a great deal of searching. Hope that makes some sense.

Alas, no. Once you send a link to your video, even if unlisted, your details will be visible. Consider the unlisted video just hidden, slightly, not really private as you need.
